A mate of mine has an 1800 cc one of these and its just stopped starting...click click no whir... I cant even see where the starter is...the cable dissapears ominously behind the exhaust manifold Anyone done one of these and wots the best way to go about it? Mr Haynes only seems to know about manuals... Jonners

Can't remember this one personally, but up in the air and look up at the back of the engine, the starters on most manual/auto are the mostly same, sometimes not in the same place though.

Unless you have a pit or lift this will be a pain to do.

Yeah, but they are quite good at manuals :-) ??

One cause of click and no whirr is a dead battery. It might be worth putting a pair of jump leads across from another car before looking for a mechanical problem.

And then if that fails, before getting the spanners out, when you find the starter, try hitting it gently is with a lump of 4x2 or a heavy rubber mallet. Will only be a temprary fix, but it might ust keep it running for a while.
