The Morris Minor Owners Club
There's quite a few advantages in runing an older car like an MM. Being very simple cars, means that most repairs can be done by any reasonbly skilled DIY owner, and unlike most modern cars that have sensors, ECU's and complicated electrics, that can fail, leading to possibly an expensive garage bill. Many faults or breakdowns on an MM can be fixed at the side of the road.
Spares are still being made and are comparitively cheap, so there is no reason why an MM can't be kept running indefinitly. A well sorted one is easy and cheap to repair, and there are many modifications that can be made to improve the braking, heating, and to make them quieter.
They're also reasonably economical, and kept in good condition, don't suffer from depreciation,
As a first car for those who do high mileages, maybe they're not a good choice. Not that they are incapable of high mileages, they are, but modern cars are so much more comfortable.
As a second car though, for the school run, shopping etc, I think they are a better choice than a modern small hatchback. Mike.
Try Heritage Motor Services, on Canal Road in Armley, he had one last week outside.
