Pin for the clutch fork - '79 Spitfire

I noticed the clutch fork pin on my tranny bellhousing is not to be seen. I mean, it doesn't stick out from the top nor bottom, and there's no "circlip" that I've seen in other bellhousings.

Is it possible to hammer it out and hammer in a new one without removal of the gearbox? Or would I get things out of alignment inside the bellhousing(the washers, etc) that it would be near impossible?

Or is it just not worth it at this time?(Ie save it for a winter project)

I've never had one that stuck out. It's located by a "crinkly washer", which is a corrugated sleeve between it and the hole in the bellhousing.

Why would you want to do it? I tend to replace them at clutch change time, but I don't see any need to do it more often. From memory, you can replace them in situ: hammer a new one in from below, displacing the old one, then drift it up the top, stick on the crinkly washer and wallop it all back down again.

I still don't think you need to do it, though.
