Satnav updates

When I owned a Renault Laguna a few years ago, the cost to buy an update Satnav CD was about £120. I have no idea how long it would have been before another one was needed to update that. I declined. Now I have a BMW, it offers the option to subscribe to a map update system, which gives up to four updates, received online, for £79 per year. Much cheaper than the Renault system. But the file is huge, I have been downloading it for some hours now, it currently stands at 27.6 Gig, and it's still going. I can't find out how big it is in total, so I will have to go to bed and leave it downloading overnight. I need it for tomorrow morning. That assumes that I can find a stick big enough for the file to transfer it to the car. I wonder how long it will take to transfer to the car from the stick.

To a Blues tune: "I got up this morning and the download had failed". Well, the checksum check kept failing, so it won't be accepted, and I certainly don't want to install a corrupt file. But it did tell me that the file is 30-something GB in size, and will take 10 hours to re-download. So I travel with the old map today, and try again tonight. I do have a USB stick large enough for the file, though, once I have it.

If it is over 20 Gig it must be covering a very wide area!

A friend of mine has a Ford Focus and his Satnav download was nowhere near that size.

It is the whole of Europe. I don't know how far away it goes, though.

The Eurovision song contest extends to Israel, and I believe they are planning to include / invite Australia :-\
