SD1 Speedo

In news: snipped-for-privacy@i40g2000cwc.googlegroups.com, Liam Healy wrote something quite bizarre, possibly in an effort to confuddle the world. It went like so;

I'm probably wrong, but I always thought all SD1s had an electronic speedo.

Early ones were mechanical.

And I can't answer the question despite having owned a P6 as well.

Can you post a link to a pic?

I can't be certain, but I've had a few P6 and I think I'd have remembered if they didn't have the normal screw on connection. Not owned an early SD1.

I'm on a couple of SD1 mail lists and could ask there if you want.

Many of the cooking Leyland cars of the early 70s had the pushfit speedo cable end. Marina, etc. I don't recall offhand whether Rovers used them too, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Even the Mini from the two-clock dash in the Clubman onwards.

My SD1's had electronic Speedo's. I know this, because the connecting wire on one of them needed replacing (wire got damaged near the gearbox).

Yes, I actually have a series 2 electronic speedo complete in my shed, but didnt know if the series one was manual.

The 1972 2000TC didn't. It has an angled connector that screws in and is similar to that from a 1976 (?) MGB - as I learnt yesterday...
