Pour some thin oil down each plug hole. leave for a few days. Put in top gear with the handbrake off and push and pull the car till the engine turns.

Which version of viva, have you got a manual for it? I have several spare books for various models, and still have a '64 HA of my own.

Drop some diesel (or other thin oil) down each plug hole and leave overnight to see if it frees the pistons.

Its such a simple engine, its not hard to lift the head and see what you find. At that mileage there shouldn't be much bore wear, but it could easily be jammed solid.

Its years since I worked on a Viva - good luck - it'd be great to have another one survive the rust bug!

hiya,

had this snag on a '76 4.2 jag. kept squirting WD40 into the bores and leaving 'till the next day to try and turn the thing by hand. after a week or so it freed up and i turned it lots to shift the rust and not break the rings before changing the oil and filter, ran lovely after that.
