Who was taking the head off a Reliant 750cc recently?

I have a source of a new cyl head for you for free.

T'was I :-)

Found that the number 3 piston was cracked. Stripping it further today to assess any other damage. Head is flat but valves have taken a bit of a beating.

I assume that the bodge artist advanced the timing. Didn't think to check when I set it back to standard. Must have been one hell of a bang in the cylinder to crack a piston crown!

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Andy Luckman (AJL Electronics)" saying something like:

From the Scim yahoo list...

might collect Saturday morning.I'm having a clearout prior to yet another move.

things from Rebel and 3-wheelers. But alot of things like the blue suppressors that were on all Reliants. None is real treasure as it were but there are alot of smaller items which are perhaps no longer available. I haven't got time to go through everything and list all the parts - as a teacher i don't get the time.

don't think it's worth someone driving too far to collect it.

REPAIR WHERE A PLUG WAS TAKEN OUT AND IT FILLED WITH WATER)|NEW FUEL PUMP|GAUGES MAINLY REBEL|SU AIR FILTERS|OIL FILTERS|LOADS OF NUTS AND SEALING RUBBERS|CARB OR TWO

You might need to hurry, but so far there seem to be no takers.

I have seen a cracked piston crown only once before, and that was in an Imp that ran out of water and its owner carried on driving it until it conked out by the side of the road. (He was trying to get from Liverpool to London).

Given your original description:

I wonder if that was your original problem too. I would suggest you take out No 4 piston which had the high compression and have a close look at it. You might find the rings welded to the crown.

I burned a hole in a piston you could have stuck a pencil through once, on a Kawasaki Z650 - we think that it was a blocked carb main jet......

The message from "Gordon" contains these words:

Saw a bigger hole than that on a DT100 once - but I can't for the life of me remember what caused it.

Hello, didn't realise you were lurking here... ah, I see, you're not. Sorry, I hadn't noticed the cross post. As you were, nothing to see here...
