93 Start Issue

All of a sudden, this afternoon my 93 decided not to start.

When the key is put in and turned, all the instruments light up, a/c comes on, loads of power, yet it doesn't turn over.

I do not hear any click-click-click so I don't think it is a started issue. I am leaning to a VATS issue.

Any thoughts as to how this can be determined.

Thanks

Mark

If its a VATS issue ? Your security light should be staying on and it should be throwing up a code. If you have a different key ? Try it and see if its works. If it does not, you could have the Vats value substituted beyond the key switch. If it starts, that will narrow down your problem. If it doesn't, you may have to have your car hooked up to diagnostic equipment.

Mark:

I had this very same issue happen to my '90 ZR1 last month. Drove it for about half an hour, then stopped at the local Hollywood Video rental store. When I tried to start it, nothing. Just as you describe. Went home got the extra keys, tried all three, nothing. Disconnected battery, waited 10 minutes, nothing. Tried jumping the battery, nothing. Re-seated all the fuses in the regular fuse box, nothing. Read in my owners manual about an auxiliary fusebox located under and inside the dash on the passenger side, something called the CRNK/A-B. I reseated the fuses and the car started. I dont' know if I really did anything, but it hasn't happened since. Luck? Dunno.

If keys don't work check the ignition module. That may need to be replaced. Putting in hte key a few million times may have worn it out.

My ZR1 has only 10,000 miles. Doubtful that the key has been in the ignition more than a few hundred times.

Have seen Vats keys malfunction when they were brand new. With a little wear? Ya really never know...
