1997 Plymouth Neon starter problems

My friend was trying to change the starter in a 97 Plymouth neon. He was using a Haynes manual and one of the steps was to brace the engine and remove the front engine bolt. Then let the engine slide back to get to the starter. Well, he didn't brace the engine and the engine slid forward. Now he can't get to the starter and doesn't know how to get the engine back. Any suggestions? How would you brace the engine? Is there an easier way to get the starter out? Thanks.

Floor jack, a block of wood, a come-along, and lessons learned.

An easier way than the f***up he wound up with would have been to follow the instructions in the first place, not beg for help if he screwed up and ignored them. Maybe he's lucky it didn't fall out on the ground with him under it.

Any suggestions? Yes. If he can't follow instructions, he should pay someone else to do it before he hurts himself.

Don't forget, I told you so.
