ECU faults on fiat punto 1.2 8v o2 reg

has anyone else out there had problems with 02 reg ? engine warning system came on.engine miss firing.the AA relayed car to Fiat Garage.AA diagnostic was coil b was causing the engine misfire. Only to have the fiat dealership say that there would be nothing wrong with coil b and that the ecu unit was the problem.(this dealership has had 3 of these in the last month) beware!!!!. One final caution if you car is still under warranty and you have the misfortune of dealing with fiat customer service(i use the term service in jest -there isnt any i recommend trading standards and watchdog )

My money is on the AA man being right.

The coil is a (relatively) cheap and quick to replace component.

The ECU is likely to be a medium sized sack full of notes ( several hundred UKP ), they are generally reliable too.

At first glance the garage is taking you for a ride.

(BTW the light comes on because there is unburnt fuel in the exhaust when you have the misfire - get it sorted out quickly, or the garage will sting you for a cooked catalyser too).
