77 Firebird Olds 350 Oil pump question

I'm putting that engine back together... It's a 77 Firebird with the

350R (Olds) engine. I'm about to put the pickup screen on the oil pump. The old (not necessarily original, don't know) pump has the screen leaning at almost a 45 degree angle. All the Chevy oil pumps I've ever seen (and pretty much anything else...) had the pickup screen parallel with the bottom of the oil pan. Is this pump supposed to have the pickup screen leaning like that? It looks like it would miss the bottom couple of inches of oil. I'm going to try test-fitting the pan to see if there's a clearance problem. It looks like they pressed the fitting into the pump crooked and just left it that way.

Do any of you guys know if it's supposed to be like that??

It shows it to be parallel to the bottom of the pan, just like my old Chevy engines. That's how I put it back in. I'm finally almost ready to put it back in the car, maybe next weekend!

Tnx, Kerry
