Well, I remember seeing pictures on a guy's site that he put a 455 in an '82 T/A. Made me think of what I would want in mine. Can't remember the site anymore though....Do you remember Dennis? but can be done.
Considering there's no such thing as a Big Block Pontiac motor, no I've never seen such a swap done. LOL :). Yeah yeah yeah...... I hit myself after I posted it..... I knew better.. oh well... maybe I can blame it on the alcohol I was thinking about drinking.. LOL
I believe Buick and Olds actually did have two block sizes. The Pontiac is slightly taller and wider than a SBC, but considerably smaller than a BBC. It is considered incorrect to refer to a Pontiac as a "big Block" because there is no other Pontiac engine that it is bigger than. Hard core Pontiac fanatics will scold you for it every time.
Gary is 100% correct. All of the Pontiac V8s from the 265 vin S 2 barrel (80-81) to the 455 vin W 4 barrel (up to 1976) are externally dimensionally identical for all practical purposes.
Pontiac never marketed big and small block like Chevrolet or even Oldsmobile.
Pontiac V8s are just that, Pontiac V8s. Joe--ASE Certified Parts Specialist & 10th Ann.Club Tech Director '80 Carousel Red Turbo T/A, 26k orig. '79 "Y89" 400/4 speed 10th Ann. T/A, 57k orig '84 Olds 88 Royale Bgm 2 dr, 307 "Rocket" (lol), 141k and still going.... '80 T/A project car...
