Recommended 2000 Z28 Thermostat

I searched this newsgroup for releated questions before asking but it seems most of the articles have expired, so here goes:

I was wondering what everyone else's opinion was for the SLP 160 degree thermostat for a 2000 Z28. (No, I am not dedicated to the SLP thermostat, other cooler running thermostats would not be out in my book). Obviously running cooler is better but I am unsure of all the enviromental and 'compensating' crap GM puts on these engines and don't want to work against something the factory has installed. Like most, I am looking to make my LS1 run at peak performance with a very small budget (already put on cold air induction, catback system, smooth bellows which has all drained my Camaro budget down to about $60 :( ). This is my daily driver and I really love my Z28. The wife would kill me if I screwed something up to the point I would need to 'fix something that was working fine .. blah blah blah'.

Any pointers, web sites, how-to's etc.. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
