2000 Ford Explorer Transmission

I just had the front transfer case re-worked @100,000 miles, now @

106,000 it started slipping going from 2nd to 3rd gear. They tell me that both differentials are bad and need rebuilt. Wow! What an expense! Is Ford doing anything about these bad transmissions? HELP ME, QUICK!!! snipped-for-privacy@juno.com

The transfer case is a distinct unit from the transmission. If your transmission is slipping, that is a completely different problem than anything you had done to the transfer case (which bolts to the rear of the transmission). What exactly happeded to your transfer case that required it to be rebuiltg? Do you have Control Trac 4WD, or All Wheel Drive (no selector on the dash for A4WD, 4Hi, 4Lo). What symptom(s) led to the diagnosis of bad differenitals? It seems unlikely that both would fail at the same time unless you submerged the vehicle in water. And if you did submerge the vehicle in water, well, you know why you are having the other problems as well.

Ed....Thanks for your input. I ended up taking it to my local Ford dealer and learned that I needed some gaskets a pump kit and filter for the transmission. Nothing wrong with the transfer case. They flushed....put in new fluids(they did also flush the transfer case and rear differential and put in new fluids) I was kinda bummed, because the front differential was just rebuilt in January....and I don't drive hard. I do pull a boat 50-60 miles at a crack, but nothing heavy. I appreciate your input.
