99 Explorer Sport

Hi,

I have a problem with my 99 Explorer Sport with AWD. On snowy days when driving, it started kind of bucking sometimes. It almost seems like the engine is cutting out or backfiring, but I can't tell if it is the engine cutting out, or something with the transmission. I shifted into 4WD and it doesn't seem to matter, so I don't think that the wheels were spinning and the 4WD was kicking in. I was only going about 45 mph, so I shifted it out of overdrive to see if it was trying to shift, no difference. It only happens on days when there is snow blowing on the road and didn't bother at all when the temps were well below zero all last week without snow. Would the computer show any sort of code? (I haven't taken it to my mechanic, yet) Is there a sensor that can be getting snow on it or wet? (I didn't have any problem this summer or fall when it was raining) Anybody have the same/similiar problems?

I tried the water bottle. I didn't find anything even though I had everything pretty saturated. Are there any sensors for the computer that could make the engine cut out? Today when coming home from work, it seemed to do it when I would meet a semi that would kick up a bunch of snow. It doesn't seem like it kills the engine, just kind of cuts out and then runs smooth again.

Thanks,

Brian
