ABS Light

Been a while since I posted, but have a question before I'm off to the shop!

99 ,4 Dr., Limited, 65,000 mi. 4.0 eng.

From out of nowhere, had the "ABS" light on the dash come on and stays on! Had a Dealer brake job completed about 8,000 mi. ago, so brakes are good. New tires about 1500 mi ago! 60,000 mi. Dealer Service completed at 62,000 mi. ( month or two ago).

All the obvious (to me) connectors are okay, fuses (2) are good, fluid level is good! No obvious leaks.

Anyone have/had a similar problem and have any ideas on anything I have overlooked. Can't get it into the shop till after the weekend, so have time to check some more.

BTW: Bought the car new in 99 at this Dealership and have had all the service done there since. Never anything but great service!

I think I read once in this forum that the ABS relay may be the culprit. Unplug/plug it to see it that does anything; if not you can get the part cheper than an ABS overhaul.

The ABS module will have to be polled for any DTCs.... A scan tool capable of communicating with proprietary modules is required...

FWIW, the ABS system cannot determine if the brake pads are in serviceable condition...

My ABS light came on during the winter time, possibly from the road salt, because 2 days later it went out and has not come on since. Give it a couple of days, maybe a sensor is dirty.

Weekend was over and got the truck into the shop. End result was a" rear wheel speed sensor". Always hate to spend $240.00 , but I could have just thrown money at it and eventually found the problem :>). In stead they used the analyzer and had it completed in 4.0 hrs. and me on my way.

Thanks (Jim) and all those who responded. Bill
