Extending the BTB warranty on 2001 4x4 Exp. Sport.

Hello, I am getting closer to the end of my 3 years BTB warranty and I was wondering if it is worth to spend the $1800 to get it extended to 7/70,000. Currently have 25,000miles on it and it runs great. The dealer service guys told me that the main problems with these SUV's is the transmission but I am not aware of frequent failures before 100,000 miles.

I was wondering if there is any reliable source of info. on the web of the main failures so I can make a decision if the Extenssion it's worth or not. Appreciate any feedbacl from this group. Thanks

Given the low mileage you are doing (and I assume you mean to keep the vehicle), I would be very tempted to extend the warranty. Having engine transmission and major components like alternator, cooling, ABS systems etc. covered will probably pay for itself come years 5 onwards.

However be aware that extended warranties are not as comprehensive as the original BTB even if the manufacturer issues the extended warranty. (Things like turn indicators, lights, radio, CLA etc. may or may not be covered). Be sure you understand the exclusions before committing to it. An extended warranty is a different animal than a BTB warranty but well worth it for low mileage owners IMHO.

Oh I forgot to mention that extended warranties often include a deductible, you may have to pay $50 or $100 per visit to the dealer. The deductible may vary depending on the initial cost of the warranty.

Just to add to your post, extended warranty prices are usually negotiable. Shop around at different dealers or on the net.

Go to WARRANTYDIRECT.COM. I have had EXCELLENT experiences (4 policies on 4 different vehicles) with them for the past few years.

I have NO connection with Warrantydirect.com other than being a satisified customer.

I would be careful who you buy the warranty from. I prefer Ford ESP.
