Freon Question

Could someone tell me which freon they used in a 1993 explorer. Thanks Stan

It came with R12 rom the factory.... after this many years, who knows what might have been added?

There should be sticker, clearly stating the type and quantity of refrigerant. Perhaps on the cross-brace, just above radiator, or the underside of the engine hood. You can also tell by the size and shape of the low and high side ports - those for R134a will be much larger and smooth on the outside. R12 will be smaller and have external thread.

I bought a "retrofit" kit for my '92 and the new fitting for R134 is a quick-connect type. I suspect that if it is still R12 it will not have the new fitting. My '91 still has R12 in it and it could use a recharge but from what I've read it may be cheaper to retrofit it too but first I'll need to have the R12 removed by a qualified AC tech.
