Re: Weak coil or Bad Injectors... Jim, again?

all other problems aside, You've replaced the plugs multiple times and it's only got 50k on it ?

Yikes ! you *should* be about halfway through your FIRST set !

I am so close to solving my rough idle problem. I have never paid to much

I guess I should clarify, I do not consider myself a Yahoo. In the last 20 some years I have changed plugs many times. Only once on this Explorer. I knew when I read my post that my wording could be taken wrong...

Ahh... well THAT makes more sense !

I didn't mean to imply that you were a Yahoo though, it's just that those double plats are $$$ and I didn't want to see you wasting any more than necessary !

That reducing the plug gap has helped the problem, it could still be a problem of lean mixtures rather than coil pack, though the coil pack is a good thought. A four tower coil pack contains two separate coils, each coil feeding a running pair (as one piston is coming up on compression, it's running mate is coming up on exhaust...).

Tough to comment on the plugs without looking closely at them.... interesting to note, though, that 2 and 8 are running mates and 2 and 3 are situated side by each in the bank. For all intents and purposes, it sounds like the ignition system is working well... weak coils will generally show themselves during acceleration.

If the problem appears to be more of a rolling idle or other non-descript roughness, I'd be more inclined to inspect the inside of the EGRvalve to be sure the pintle isn't stuck on a bit of carbon. Ignition or injector problems would be more of a steady miss (actually difficult to tell given your symptoms). Additionally, EGR valves are subject to more adverse operating conditions that most of the various systems.

HTH.
