Ford Taurus 99 - Steering wheel jammed

Somebody rotated with force my car's steering wheel while parked. It jammed the steering wheel and car would not start. What could be the problem?

Force the steering wheel in the direction the wheels are turned now while simultaneously turning the key to the start position.
