Frozen rear wheel

May 19, 2007 1 Replies

I have a 1949 Mercury that has been stored for 20 years. The rear passenger side brake has frozen the wheel. The brake pedal is stuck in the up position and won't depress. Does anyone have suggestions as to a quick way to loosen the brake without removing the hub to get at the brake shoe and cylinder? The emergency brake SEEMS to be dis-engaged and the rear driver's side wheel turns easily.

Remove the rear wheel and tap around the outside of the drum with a hammer. Tap, not pound:) If you can get to the adjuster, back it off.
