Gear shift will not come out of park after car starts and break pedel is depressed. brake lights don't function and cruise control does not cease when break pedal depressed.

Check fuse in circuit, check both brake lamp bulbs. If they are OK, brake light switch is likely problem. Easy to change - about $20US for parts and 15 minutes time from under dash if you have to figure out how to remove clip. All a common problem.
