2005 model

I posted my reaction to seeing three of them at a dealer on May 11 on this newsgroup. I can't quite get comfortable with the nose, but I suspect it'll grow on me. It looks like the nose on every Suzuki/Honda/Nissan, and at first glance I confused it for a Taurus. I liked the swoopy look of the old car.

As to info, you don't say what country you live in but the Ford U.S.A. website now has complete specs, including build and price. There's also info on Edmunds and Intellichoice. The specs aren't that much different from the

2004 model, except that the base 110-hp motor is gone.

When I come to replace my beloved 2000 wagon (which I'm in no hurry to do) I may look for pampered 2004 model. I suspect they'll be bargains, simply because of the association with the problems of the first-generation Foci.

Cheers

I agree, I fell in love with the old Focus when I first saw it, finally last year I got myself a 2003 1.6 Zetec 3 door and I still love the distinctive look, but as you said the new one just looks like most other boring cars on the road 8o(

Except any of the 2005s will blow the doors off your 2003.

Not necessarily a big deal.

My local dealer was kind enough to send me a brochure for the 2005 Canadian models, and I, naturally, focused most of my attention on the wagon version.

Except for the nose, the exterior remains unchanged. The new instrument panel will probably look bland to anyone familiar with the previous model (although there will finally be a CD holder). The engine choices are different, and the front brakes and suspension will be tweeked. There will be some new paint colours and fabric patterns.

It seems all wagons will be dubbed "ZXW's" with SE and SE/S (?) as available trim levels. Even the tail lights will remain unchanged (the sedan appears to get new ones though).

This will just be a light freshening-up of the North American version, but the Focus sold here will have very little in common with the European models. :(

I'm happy enough with my 2000 wagon that I'm not counting the days untill the '05s arrive. If I were looking to upgrade, I don't think the new model would be the answer for me. Still, it won't hurt to take a look ...

According to the specs listed by Ford, both old 2.0L engines (SPI and Zetec) are replaced by the 2.0L Duratec 20 and 20E (the latter being a lower emissions version).

Both the 1.8 and 2.0 are replaced by Duratec units as fitted in the Mondeo and C-Max at the moment, but with Siemens management. (currently Bosch)

The PSA developed 1.6 TDCI all alloy unit will be available in 75 and 100ps versions with Delphi 2 and a bit-th generation management whilst the 2litre unit will be heavily refettled (boy does it need it) and available at a later date with 136ps.

My parents rented a gorgeous copper ZX5 (?) recently and loved it. They said the power was awesome. I wish I could have drove it :-(

An addendum to the one my parent's rented. I LOVED the new front end (guess I'm in the minority). I think it looks better than my 2003. Cooler grill. Integrated turn signals, which looks better than the "add-on" turn signals on my 2003. It had the same tires/wheels as my ZTW but, bigger rotors. That, coupled with the engine makes it a winner, IMHO.

you'd better check your source for those pictures - looks like an US Focus to me, especially with the speedometer readout in MILES PER HOUR! and the steering wheel on the proper side of the car.... :-)
