My Fuel Pump Failed Today...

Hey guys,

I have a 2000 Focus ZTS, and today I had to have the fuel pump replaced. I was having trouble with the car for the past month. Before sometimes when I was accelerating onto the freeway, when I would get to about 3500 RPM the car would surge or hesitate, but yesterday, just cruising around at about 60 MPH the car started sputtering, then just stalled. Very scary. So after $700 I got a new fuel pump and hopefully that totally solved the problem. From what I'm reading on here, it's a common problem. Ford should recall that part for safety reasons.

I made a similar suggestion to Transport Canada (our national regulatory agency), when I filed a complaint against Ford for their faulty ignition switches. The bottom line is that such parts are not considered key safety components. It may be a costly pain in the wallet when a switch or pump fails, but they don't ordinarily place your life in danger.

That's their view. My view is that Ford should step-up and look after their customers. I've said it before: while I certainly do like my Focus, I hate the service I've gotten from Ford, and this will be my last Ford vehicle.

I just got my 2000 SE back from Pepboys yesterday. Not only did my fuel pump go, but 2 weeks after it was replaced, the little $.69 bracket that holds the return hose broke, spilling fuel all over the garage floor when I went to start it. Pepboys called Ford, who told them they'd have to wait 2 weeks to get the little bracket, plus they'd have to order the kit for the whole return line. Pepboys then had to order a whole different fuel pump just to replace the stupid $.69 bracket. I only paid for the original fuel pump, Pepboys picked up the rest, which was more than double of what I originally paid. Ford's got a problem and they don't want to face up to it. I'll never own another Ford product. Steve

I'll second that!

I have a 2001 SE Wagon. It's the worst car I've ever had for bad quality. I can't get anything for it on a sale or trade.

- left me stranded twice.

- Rear tire wear.

- cutting out.

- leaking windhld.

- noises all over the place.

- +, + yadda.

Ford and the dealer(s) say there is nothing wrong. I had smoke blown up my ass. I got ripped-off.

I too have a 2001 wagon and the only trouble I've had were recalls and a dpfe sensor that was covered under warranty. I did experience excessive rear tire wear but a trip to the alignment shop cured that.. As an aside when I talked to the guy at the alignment shop (Alignment Professionals in Knoxville TN) I asked him about the complaints about rear tire wear I've seen on this news group and other forums which was attributed to Fords alignment specs... He told me that he didn't use Fords specs that he used his own. At any rate after he aligned the rear (the front was fine) the wear problem was solved and it handles just as good as it always did. I want out of my 2000 ZTS...... My fuel pump and heater fan are both beginning to fail. I have had multiple leaks (2), front suspension problems(2), excessive tire wear, poor fuel economy (16 city / 22 highway), and a dealer who believes that now that the warranty has ended, Ford's respsonsibility has also ended. In addition to all of that, the resale value is horrible. This car depreciates quicker than I can pay for it.

Can anyone tell me why I didn't buy the Civic?????
