'02 F-150 Rotting Fuel Tank

Dec 20, 2003 3 Replies

Hello all,

I have a friend who has what his dealer has called a "rotted out fuel tank". The dealer refuses repairing anything under warranty, claiming that it is due to "bad gas". Now, granted my friend has "bad gas" frequently, but as he fuels up his truck at many different stations, I find it hard to believe he's getting bad fuel. This is a gas engine truck.

Anyone ever hear of anything as crazy as this?

TIA

PS: This is **not** a joke. The dealer wants $1200 to replace the tank and all connecting hoses on an essentially new truck.

Sounds like he should bend over to me.....

Take it to another dealer or contact the Ford regional office. This sounds like a very blatant rip-off.

If he's under 36000 miles, he needs to contact Ford. Warranty is warranty. Don't really matter if he put acid in it. I never heard of any corrosive gasoline.

If the truck sat up for years with the same tank of gas I might buy it, but for a regularly driven vehicle that's total bunk. I'd call Ford and then find a better dealer to work with.
