2000 f350 diesel 4x4 and OD PROBLEMS

Does the 4x4 dash light come on? If not, your transfer case shift motor is not working for some reason. Only the hubs require vacuum, the transfer case is shifted with an electric motor.

If it's the switch, perhaps it will work when shifting to 4wd low. The transmission must be in Neutral and your foot on the brake to shift into

This is one of the reasons I prefer a manual lever instead of a switch, even though I have an F250 and an Excursion, each with the damn switch.

The OD switch and the transfer case are independent. Could be switch, could be the TCM, could be a bad transmission solenoid. Good luck.

no dash lights come on. they do cycle on when the truck is started. but they dont come on whne turning the switch. 4 lo is a no-go as well.

i locked the hubs manually and turned the front drive shaft and hte tires turn. vacuum lines look intact but i havent prformed a soapsuds test.

isnt it safe to think that if hte lgiths dont coe on it has to start at the switch?

why dont they have a manual override on these friggin things.?

At least the hubs can be locked manually. As I said before, the vacuum applies only to the hubs, not the transfer case.

Perhaps. A bad switch would prevent the shift motor from shifting the transfer case, but so would a bad connection, shorted wire, bad shift motor, etc. As I said above, the light on the dash is not controlled by the switch, it is controlled by the transfer case. I would take a look to see if the electrical connector at the transfer case is loose or dirty.

Because most people think "easier" is "better."
