2000 Ford Ranger won't always start

A few days ago, I made a short 10 minute stop and had to crank the engine for several seconds, several times to restart. After it finally started, the "check engine" light was on. Took it to the shop today and they said the code indicated a fuel pump sensor that controls the fuel gauge and had nothing to do with the engine not getting fuel. The truck started well and they couldn't find a problem. The check engine light is still on and they said it would reset itself after a few cycles.



Anybody have experience with intermittent sensor problems and the possibility the fuel pump may be at fault?

How hot was the engine when you shut it off? How long after you shut it off did you try to restart it?

The engine was normal temperature and was restarted in about 15 minutes. The "check engine" light has now gone off after about 20 cycles and all appears normal. I did fill up the gas tank, since it was running on about 1/4 level. I figured a full tank would be easier on the pump since it doesn't have to lift the gas as far as with an empty tank. But I still have the original plugs and wires with about

150K miles. Maybe I should replace the plugs and wires?
