302 engine sites

if you've rebuild even 1 ford motor in the 221-302 area....you won't get any surprises....pretty solid motor that 302...basically 289 bored over to increase displacement, and eliminate "squench area" in combustion chamber...bigger pistons...much beefer bottom end.....watch cam bearings...off again on again problem with ford....still feeds rocker tower from one of those cam bearings...small burr can damage bearing and restrict flow...generally not a block problem unless it's a real short runner, real high miler...w/major crankcase sludge...by any stretch though...take the block to a good auto shop or parts house and have them do an overnight "boil" and through cleaning...much cheaper than re-doing engine in a few thousand miles...btw...289 bearing caps will fit on a 302 but you won't like the results......check the rod bolts for cracking too....better yet just replace 'em...if ford doesn't have 'em...Napa parts house should or local engine rebuilder should....good luck...
