93 Ranger Report

Hello,

I have a 93 Ranger with the gutless 4 cylinder. Bought in 96 with 28,000. Immediately I started using semi-synthetic oil, changed the trans fluid around

75k. I had to replace the slave cylinder at 120,000. Had them put a new clutch in while they were there. Trans guy said my oil plugs fell out and put new ones in with silicone.

At 155,000 the timing belt died. I hadn't bothered to replace it because I read several places the 2.3 is non-interference, the valves won't contact the pistons. Well they didn't but the belt managed to whack the balancer on the crank and it took out the crank position sensor. So what I thought would be a $25 dollar fix turned into $200.

I had a Ford remanufactured alternator already for it and got a new water pump to install while working on it. The engine still sounds good, I expect it to go 200k easy now.

Pretty good vehicle for 11 years old. Still has the original paint and looks good.

Now you've got me concerned ..... which oil plugs?

I have the 5 speed manual trans. They have 3 plugs on top of the trans where it is impossible to see them, close to where your shift lever enters the trans. The shop told me they shrink and fall out, letting trans fluid leak out the top and eventually killing the trans.
