cleaning carbon from engine

is it wise to use diesel fuel as a way to clean out carbon from engine? if so, how should one use it, putting some (how much?) in gas tank, or pouring some down carb.

someone has also suggested pouring a little water down carb, then starting engine, as a way to clean out carbon. is this a good way??

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! Do NOT put liquid of any kind down the throat of a non-running engine! The liquid will pool into one cylinder and when that cylinder comes up on compression, you'll likely end up with a bent connecting rod, broken cylinder, and other catastrophic failure.

Any liquid down the carb is to be done on a warm RUNNING engine ONLY!!!!!

Slowly pour in about a quart of ice cold water into the air intake of a fully-warmed up engine. You probably will have to give it quite a bit of gas and keep it rev'ed up to avoid stalling.

You can use a spray bottle of water while the engine is RUNNING...I have heard of folks doing this before and tried it myself a while ago as a trouble shooting step in another problem I was having. Not sure how effective it is, but I know it don't hurt.

It does work but it may also wreck your catalytic converter is what I have heard Just spray a continual steady stream of water into the intake while the engine is ~1500 rpm. The steam blasts off carbon from the chamber. I would check into this before trying.

I have herd good things about using water to clean the carbon from an engine, although I have never done it. I have boiled pistons when I have taken them aout and that really works good...so I would think that putting water down the carb would work good too. From what I hear the motor must be hot. Also the exhaust should be disconnected...all that crap has to go somewhere and you don't want it in your muffler! I would also caution that if you put too much water in too quick you could hydrolock the pistons, the results would be catastrophic I am sure.
