Determining F250 Transmission Type?

Apr 17, 2004 5 Replies

I just picked up a used 1995 F250, reg cab, long bed, 7.3 turbo diesel. It has a 4 speed automatic. The gear selector has D, 2, 1 and there is a button on the end of the selector to turn Overdrive on and off. Anyone know which transmission this is or can it be determined from the VIN#? TIA

Should have said it is a 4 X 4.

be aware that a failure of just about ANY sensor on that engine will start the OD light flashing

the cam sensor (right up top in front on the timing housing) is especially prone to crap out

Thanks for the info. The is a slight leak in the trans pan gasket so I am going to change the fluid, filter and gasket.
