I have a 88 F-150 with the 4.9 (300CID) 6 cyl with manual transmission. The motor has went bad and I would like to replace it with a V-8 motor. Which motor would fit in there with the least amount of modifications. And would I have to install new springs in the front to handle the additional weight??

5.0 or 5.8. Best bet would be to get it and all the rigging from a junked F150. Might even be worth the effort to go to a 460 but you'll need to change the transmission for sure, bell housing is different. 5.0 wouldn't be much heaver, spring may even be the same weight. Spring would be cheap from a junk yard anyways but hold off until you do the swap and see how it sits and handles.
David, If you decide to make the swap, keep us posted. I have a 92 F150 300ci (still runs OK) that I had considered swapping with a 460, but chickened out when everyone filled me in on all the problems. Bill
