Depending on year and powertrain config, it could be different things. Do you have any of that? It would help some of the more knowledgeable here to help you.

I tapped in the ground coming out of the plug that goes into the fuel tank and ground it against bear metal on the frame and it did nothing. I also checked and double checked the wires going all the way up in to the fuse boxes and they all look fine and are in their plastic binder. it may be a ground issue, but I have 2 tanks and when one tank doesn't work neither will the other one. and when one works I will switch tanks and the other one works as well. It may be a ground, but all the wires looked fine. how do I check the ground more accurately or any other ideas? I'm stumped

When it won't start, is there power to the relay? Does the power make it to the pump? Is the ground good? What year truck is this, Always important when asking questions

ok how do I check to make sure power is going to the relay. and I'm pretty sure it is cause it sometimes kicks on, but then again I'm not sure and thanks for the webpages but I don't have a code machine and my check engine light isn't even coming on. So I don't think it would throw out a code if the check engine light isn't coming on, but I'm not sure. Also if the relay isn't getting power what would stop it from getting power?

OK, Your in the same year range as my dad and mine Fords, just different motors. Do you have a 12v test light and multimeter? There are usually 4 slots for the fuel pump relay. two will be hot and two will be grounds at one time or another. Look at the relay.there may me a schematic on it; one of the hot and grounds job is to connect the other hot and ground together. When you cycle the key, the relay should click once for about 5 seconds, then if the truck doesn't since the engine running it shuts off. So with a test light turn the key on and look for power at all 4 pins of the relay, try to find the two with power, remember , one of those will only have power for about the first 5 sec of the key turn.

IF you can get to and see the back of the relay connector the power wires for the fuel pump should be yellow in from battery, dark green yellow out to fuel pumps and red in for the relay activation and tan/light green out for its ground.

With the truck off applying 12v to the dk green yellow wire should start the truck if the relay was bad.

ok I went to advance auto parts and to a ford dealer and they gave me the same exact relay for my truck. I am asking for the specific location of the fuel pump relay on my truck, because I cannot find it and it isn't in the fuse box. Both places gave me something that like clips into something, but I can't find where it would go. Now I did ask them for the "fuel pump relay". So can someone please tell me where this device would go cause I would like to replace it, but I don't have a location on it and I will need the exact location please. I am losing my mind looking for it.

what is the exact part number I need for a fuel pump relay on a 1992 ford f150 it is 6cyl with 4 gear tranny with overdrive. because I think I'm getting the wrong relay for it...? In the 1992 does the fuel pump relay go in the fuse box mounton of the driver's side wheel well. cause I think I'm getting the wrong relay.

I fixed my truck. the problem was the diode that is located in the fuse box, so anyone having similar problems like me can pull out the diode and clean it to make sure the connections are good and/or replace the diode itself.

What Diode?

in the fuse box under the hood and on the drivers side. There are a bunch of fuses and relays and a black piece that plugs in like a fuse, but it says "diode" in white acrossed the top of it. It is about the same size as the big fuses and I pulled it out and cleaned it up and that fixed it. For some unknown reason that diode which wasn't letting power go through and let the relays power up.

Learn something every day; I will research this cause I don't see in in any wire diagrams.
