Ford Windstar Problem

I realize this is a Ford Truck newsgroup, but I asked this in the alt.autos.ford group and got no helpful answer so thought I'd post here.

My Windstar has a cylinder 1 misfire (I had AutoZone scan the computer and that's what came back, along with a P1407 - EGR No Flow Detected code). I changed the plugs, but still have the misfire so I'm assuming it's probably a plug wire which I will also change if needed, but first wanted to ask if it's possible to check for a bad wire or possibly a bad coil block. I can remove wire #1 from the coil with the vehicle started and there is no change in the way it idles nor any sign of sparking (no spark sound and nothing visible). So....is there a way to test for a bad wire and/or coil? Also...what about the EGR code I gave.... is there something I can do myself to test and find out exactly what the problem is? Any help is gratefully appreciated as I really don't have the money to spend right now to take the van into a shop so if I can buy parts and fix it myself that would be great...

The EGR code is probably tied to the misfiring cylinder. Repair the misfiring cylinder first, and it should rectify the EGR problem if they're tied together. If you have a dead cylinder, it will drastically change the EGR readings, setting off the code. Check the spark plug wire for high resistance, which can indicate a bad wire. If resistance is low, the wire is probably okay. It may point to the coil, but I'd be sure the spark plug is okay before replacing a coil.

Thanks for the reply Spdloader..... turned out to be the coil, but I went ahead and replaced the wires at the same time (had already replaced the plugs). I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and then drove it for about 25 miles.....check engine light hasn't come back on and it's running smooth.
