I have a 1999 Ranger 4x4 with a 3.0 that I just bought a few weeks ago. I'm getting just under 16 mpg. which seems kinda low to me. Is this a "normal" gas mileage ? If not is there something I can change or check to improve it?
TIA JC

dont know if it helps but i have a 01 ranger w/ a 3.0, but 2WD and get around 20 highway and around 17 in town.
You forgot one determining factor: Manual or Automatic transmission. I average 18-19 MPG Highway in my 2001 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 MANUAL 5-speed transmission (4.10 diff).

I am just curious, but why would changing the fuel filter gain any mileage?
I'm not trying to make the new Ranger owner feel bad, but I get
15.2 in my 94 F150 with 185,000 miles in city driving (302).(top posted for your convenience) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Keep the whole world singing . . . . DanG (remove the sevens) snipped-for-privacy@7cox.net
While the fuel filter is disconnected during replacement, you do get better mileage. Ron
