headlight conversion question

I want to put old-type headlights in a 97 Ranger. I know, that might sound crazy here but I had Hella E-code cases in my last car, a 90 VW Fox and liked them. I used Sylvania xtra vision bulbs, 55/60w and fed them using a Painless 30815 harness with relays built right into it and I got good light and more of it, and what I thought was a better light distribution than with stock DOT light pattern. Anyway, I wonder if anyone in this group has experience doing something like this, what baskets should I look for at the junkyard, where will I have to drill holes, how can I put something in for trim so it won't look crude when done, etc. I suppose the other way is to get all new HID but I don't think I want to spend that much. I think I can do what I have in mind for less than US$200. Any ideas?

TIA Tom Seattle

1) it is probalby illegal, check with your state authorities 2) it is a waste of time 3) it is a waste of money 4) why screw around with a life/safety part on your vehicle ?

.....................snip.............................................

1) E-code are legal in Oregon, Washington and Massachussets 2) no more a waste of time than other fun stuff people do to their cars or trucks 3) less than $200 for better headlights does not seem to me a waste of money 4) this isn't "screwing around". What I had before was dependable %100 of the time. Still working when the rest of the vehicle was not.

does anyone else have any suggestions?

thanks Tom Seattle
