stiff gear selector on column

95 f250 5.8 4x w/C6. Last summer the column gearshift selection needle stuck in D1. Now, when its cold, the gearshift is real stiff. One of these days, I know it will break something due to the force it takes to select R, and D. Once it's warmed up, it eases back to normal. I don't drive it much, maybe once a week, or once every 2 weeks.

Do I need to get it fixed? Will it operate normally once it warms up again?

will political people keep their election promises?? like your shifter question ,no one can say for sure. it may get better, and then again it may stick in gear and never come back out

Sounds like it needs a new shift cable. Also, check you negative battery cable connections. It may be trying to ground the engine through the shift cable. (been there, seen that a few dozen times)
