1992 Grand Prix GTP Random stalling

Hi all!

I'm hoping someone on here can give me a few leads as to my recent Pontiac Grand Prix problems. I love driving this car, and hope to keep it for a while longer, but the stalling problem is getting out of hand:

1992 GTP, 172,000KM

- The car takes a while to start, usually when it has been sitting for an hour or two/overnight. Engine keeps cranking for 7-10 seconds and then starts up just fine.

- The car has a tendency to stall, usually when driving 50kph or faster. The second I let my foot off the gas, it starts to choke and stall out. I pull over, shut the car off, restart and everything is great again.

Anyone have any ideas? My local mechanic says it is the fuel pump, but this was replaced back in January. I'm at my wits end here!

@#@ Sounds like filter problem.

When they have the filter off have them put some high pressure air on the line as well... cab be blockage.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have them check it out. Back in January they replaced the filter and pump, but I don't think they checked the line itself for blockage.

Did you find the problem with your 92 GTP? I have similar problem with 1995 GT 3.4. Can't figure it out. Last year changed fuel filt, no results. Mech said ign. module run great for about 1 year then started again after heavy rains in the area. I took out ign module had it tested (ok)added heat sink material to the back of module plus mica heat shield to back of heat sink. Replaced ign coils as I spotted cracks around mounting studs closest to the plug wires. Run great for one week until heavy rain storm in area. Now back to square one as It stalls out idling down or on aceleration more so when the engine temp is in middle range.

Hi I have checked the crankshaft sensor. Removed harmonic balancer, cleaned checked reinstalled it tests ok. Next will be camshaft sensor then another crankshaft sensor on the block. Hope its one of them. Would be nice to find it out.

Crankshaft sensor was touching the harmonic balancer just a slight bit. Cleaned it up adjusted it away from balancer. Has been running great since in hot or cold or lots of rain. Thank God.
