92 lumina sedan 3.1 - Problem pulling engine without transaxle

im trying to pull the engine out the top to swap into my beretta. the two 'dog bones' are removed, and the 'front' mount is unbolted from the frame. the transaxle mount is unbolted from the frame as well, and supported by a jack. i removed 6 bolts(2 were actually studs which the grounds fastened to) from the bellhousing. the torque converter bolts are removed, and spins free of the flywheel.

the engine lifts off of the frame, but will not seperate from the transaxle, as if there is still a bellhousing bolt remaining. i felt around as best i could, but did i miss one in the layers of grease?

any help appreciated and thanks in advance,

james

Did you remove the starter? Did you physically separate the trans from the engine before you tried to lift it?

the starter was removed. the engine/transaxle doesnt even seperate enough to fit a prybar between them

Huh, not sure what to tell you. Have someone else look at it, a buddy, brother, neighbour, whatever. Maybe you missed something stupid.

How about the bracket that goes from the back of the engine to the transaxle?

yeah the bracket which bolts the engine to the transaxle/cv housing, between the engine and firewall on the passenger side...unbolt the two bolts attaching the bracket to the cv housing and out it came(with some more prying of course haha)
