Electrical issues with 2004 Lesabre Limited

Hello,

I have a 2004 Buick Lesabre Limited and am experiencing a strange electrical problem. Over a dozen of the small backlights behind various switches and buttons have gone out. Five of the backlights behind buttons on the AC control panel are gone; at least two of the backlights behind steering-wheel mounted buttons controlling the radio and the cruise are out (and the cruise set/resume/accel switch no longer functions at all), as well as lights for the passenger climate control and certain of the radio buttons.

No one area of buttons has failed, so I dont suspect something simple like a fuse, but there has to be something to explain so many failures in such a short time for a relatively young car. It was bought brand new from a dealership, has never been in any kind of accident, is driven almost exclusively on the highway (commuter car, some family travel) and has been garage-stored. Sadly, these started occurring just outside the mileage limits of my warranty.

As an aside, my mom owns a 2005 Lesabre, and *she's* started to experience switch/light failures on her steering wheel. Getting it fixed was a nightmare even though she was under warranty, because the dealership basically didn't know how to fix them correctly....

I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas to explore on this issue.

It appears that these lamps are controlled from the dimmer section of the dash integration module.

Perhaps the lamps are actually burned out? High voltage on the system? Recommend checking with a multimeter. Also recommend checking the bulbs to find out if they really are failed. Knowing this will narrow the search to an extent.

There are a number of splices in both the power and ground wiring for these lamps. A problem with one or more of these?

Other components for the steering wheel lamp circuits include several inflatable restraint steering wheel module coils.
