GM closed Hummer the day they bought it (the name, that is). This is only the final admission that they had no concept of what the original (and ONLY) Hummer, basically a civilian version of the HMMWV, was, or what it meant to the owners.

They continually tried to fit a square peg into a round hole, with the idea that it was a potential mass-market vehicle, when in fact it was an exotic with little or no appeal to most.

It is not surprising that they failed so miserably at what they did--but let's face it: GM has had years and years of destroying those companies and product lines it accquired.
