maintanance prices

I was just wondering if anyone knows how much the average person spends on maintenance each year. Does anyone know the relationship between that amount and the number of miles driven? Do you know how far people drive each year?

I know people who drive anywhere from 1000 miles or less to 35,000 miles a year. I typically drive 23,000 to 27,000 miles a year.

Maintenance costs vary as to how old a vehicle is and what kind of shape its in. Some people, like my brother, do absolutely 0 to a car till it dies and needs to be towed in.

In 2002 the maintenance cost on my Bonneville was $1746.58 and fuel cost was $2078.67

2003 was $2431.07 for maintenance and $1740.09 for gas.

2004 was $1566.48 for maintenance and $2029.60 for gas.

2005 was $825 for maintenance and $552.38 for gas

For the year 2005 the Buick maintenance cost was $1594.75 and fuel cost was $723.38

Some manufacturers, insurers, and lessors base their figures on 12,000 per year. Of course, some people drive far far more than that.

If I drive 12,000, I change Yearly cost oil and filter 4 times.

4 * $20 = $80

One air filter per year is about = $10

I rotate my own tires

I service the tranny at 50K miles so that is 0.25 *$30 =$7.50

I change the coolant about every two years =$5.00

New tires, at about 60K =$80.00 Plugs and wires, about 60K =$12.50

Gasoline, per year, at $2.50 per gallon =$1153

There may be bits and pieces, here and there, but my net cost for owning a car at this mileage level is about $1348, excluding insurance, registration, and inspection fees.

That seems like an awful lot, especially for a vehicle that I would have thought covered by a warranty until about 200 miles ago. For a car on warranty, I'm thinking maintenance would be mostly oil changes and tire rotation.

What costs are you including?

My car (2002 Impala) cost me about $96 in oil changes last year and the only other thing that was done was a body module change that was covered by warranty.

My 1990 Suburban got a new water pump (after 88,000 miles), a new fan clutch (192,000 miles), new hoses, new serpentine belt, new PS hoses and oil changes as well as routine service on the air conditioner. Total cost was a little over $800 for everything.

I also change the trans fluid in the truck every fall and that takes 10 quarts because I do it while the engine is running (it's a little modification I put in the cooler lines that allows me to do it this way). I practice preventative maintenance so I do change a lot of things based on time but then again, I rarely experience a breakdown. This summer I plan to change the oil cooler hoses because they're about at the end of their life expectancy.

DH,

Warranty on the Park Ave is extended to 39,000 miles.

I consider everything purchased for the car as a maintenance cost item. Included in that list would be interior air filter, a case of 12 oil filters, oil, gas filter, wax, cleaners, leather protectant, gallon of Dex Cool. floor mats, cargo net, liter basket, air filter, carpeted trunk mat. I also built a red oak console for the car which total cost was probably near $111.00

Its also going to need an $85 impact absorber behind the front bumper. he bumper hangs about 2" low for some reason.

The bulk of the maintenance cost was $244.00 for a reconditioned used rim and one rim repair which was $140.00

All the little things add up.

Bonneville cost were lower in 05 because it wasn't driven that much.
