My car (2002 Impala) cost me about $96 in oil changes last year and the only other thing that was done was a body module change that was covered by warranty.
My 1990 Suburban got a new water pump (after 88,000 miles), a new fan clutch (192,000 miles), new hoses, new serpentine belt, new PS hoses and oil changes as well as routine service on the air conditioner. Total cost was a little over $800 for everything.
I also change the trans fluid in the truck every fall and that takes 10 quarts because I do it while the engine is running (it's a little modification I put in the cooler lines that allows me to do it this way). I practice preventative maintenance so I do change a lot of things based on time but then again, I rarely experience a breakdown. This summer I plan to change the oil cooler hoses because they're about at the end of their life expectancy.
