Cold start issue

Thanks for all the help on my brake question-- now one on cold starting:

'07 EX-L V6 sedan, 45,000 miles, garaged, fully maintained per owner's manual and maintenance minder.

Starting about a year ago-- on cold start (winter or summer), the car starts immediately and runs smoothly. But I live at the bottom of a long, steep hill and when I drive up it, the car sorta' chugs and the automatic transmission seems to be upshifting too soon. I'm thinking the engine is straining. If I hold it in a lower gear it doesn't seem to do it.

Once the car warms up, it pulls fine up the hill.

Ideas?

You'd really need two identical cars to see if that's even abnormal. I used to live in a very hilly region, and even in brand new cars I usually shifted manually. That's why the shifters still have that option....no vehicle can be 100% tested for every possible situation. GW

OK, thanks-- but as this only started about a year ago, I'm thinking it's not normal...
