Mk2 - Fastest "something" on the planet?

Thanks, Blake. I asked the question in another forum and it somehow ended up as a "mine is bigger than yours" debate. Some goose had a conspiracy theory that the Daimler 2.5L V8 was faster than the Mark 2 but Sir William stopped them from being raced so it was never evident. I think he should keep taking the tablets.

As to whether the Mk2 was ever advertised as 'the fastest four-door family saloon on the planet' or something similar, I have no idea but I rather doubt it. Doesn't sound like Jaguar's style to me. The 'Mk1' and Mk2 clearly dominated production saloon racing in the UK for many years. The Mk2 also won the European Touring Car Championship at least once and dominated the saloon category in the Tour de France for years.

They got a sharp warning when Dan Gurney brought over a Chevrolet coupe, though.....and were firmly put in their place when Ford shipped over the Holman and Moody Galaxies for Willment and Sir Gawaine Baillie.
