That is what got me. I've never seen a circuit board for a tail-light before.

So I bought a new tail lamp housing assembly through a buddy who works the Part's counter at the local Dodge dealer, got his discount, cost $74 + tax. It came with 3 bulb holders and new bulbs.
2 minutes to change it and I'm back in business. The Parts guy told me that for Dodge Ram and Dakota Pick-ups, you can buy the PCB and change it but for the WJ (and WK / KJ / KK ...) it isn't sold as a service part.
I'll tear it apart over the weekend and post some pics and comments in alt.binaries.pictures.auto.4x4
thanks again for the advice and consulting ... and comments on the logical deductions :-)
reboot
Don't think I have ever worked on a GM truck. Did work on several Chevys and Fords but those were 86 and older. That and my 93 ZJ. Most of the vehicles I worked on were back in college when money was tight and friends paid with beer. :) Most of the time I had my head under the hood trying to figure out why the SOB won't start. Got fairly good at rebuilding the Rochester 4M4 Quadajet.
