almost stolen!

The other night about 4AM I heard my Jeep alarm going off. I jumped out of bed, ran to the door, and saw some A*****E breaking into the front of the car... I ran out, so did my wife, I yelled at him (he looked like a kinda punk kid) he started running; I didn't have any shoes on, so my wife starts chasing him, I ran back in the house (a whole 6 feet away) grabbed my shoes, grabbed the phone and called 911.

By this time I knew where the guy was headed - to the gas station down the alley. Duh, it's fully lit: everything else is dark. I told you he didn't look too bright.

I get there (it's only 250 feet away) and he's inside, but there's another jeep parked there with someone in it.

Maybe a minute later, first one then another squad cars pull up, appraise the situation, get the guy out of the jeep in front of the gas station, AND the guy who's inside the gas station... only to find that that 2nd jeep is stolen, and there's no gas in it, and the tank is locked.

So The police (eventually 5 squad cars, 10 officers) got the 3 guys, the other lady got her jeep back (she may not even have known it was stolen) my jeep seems to be ok, and all's well here in La La Land.

Pretty cool!

Reminds me of a high speed chase I saw on one of those cop shows (Worlds Wildest Police Videos?)

Couple of teens stole a Jeep Cherokee. When the cops started chasing them they remembered what kind of vehicle they were in, so they put in in four wheel drive and did some high speed off-roading. There was no way the squad cars could keep up with them.

Then they forgot what kind of vehicle they were in and tried to make a sharp turn and rolled it...

its cool that everything turned out O.K. we must try to remember this - think twice before chasing someone like this. who knows if they have a gun or not... i know we all have guns, it could get ugly real fast.

If we truly all had guns, that guy who attempted to try to steal might have thought twice ;-)

That's just it. Criminals DON'T think (generally).

It is usually a felony to shoot a crook who is stealing your stuff. If he threatened you, that's another matter entirely. If you blow someone away who is messing with your vehicle, YOU are the one who who will be in deep shit. You will be thrown in jail and face manslaughter charges.

The only time you may legally shoot a crimainal in the USA is when your (or another's) life is in danger and you have nowhere to run.

If you own a firearm it's critical that you understand this legal point.

Not true in Texas. Stipulation is darkness. Stealing from you in the dark enables the lethal force clause.

Stealing a motor vehicle, in some instances, can be stealing a "lethal weapon" and also enable the lethal force clause. A car jacker doing a U-turn, after throwing you out of the vehicle, can be viewed as "coming back to run over you".

How true, except for Texas. They say ,Texas law say you can shoot someone trespassing on your property after dark.

Unlikely, but if he did he would also have to break the locking cap off of the hub. Then he would have to figure which 4 switches out of 11 to throw to light it up.

He would win unless I heard him. I have 3 cameras & vcr's rolling 24/7. Protected by mossburg 500 12 gauge, and Glock model 30, 45cal.

My point wasn't to advocate to shoot, but would be a deterrent to criminals if all citizens were armed...in home and on person...(laws permitting...my state sucks (Ohio) and we don't have a CCW). All states are different and you can not lump all laws under the umbrella of the USA. Allen

No. Trespassing is not enough.

TEXAS CONCEALED HANDGUN LAWS PC ?9.51. 49

PC ?9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property: (1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and (2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary: (A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or (B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and (3) he reasonably believes that: (A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or (B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.

I could Google. But I do not know of any jackings, or home invasions. They occur, I'm sure, but I've not heard.

I DO know of killings in defence of property that have gone without prosecution.
