Auto Parts Places and Stupidity

Has any one else noticed this? All the independents are gone and all the auto parts stores are chainowned. And they tend to hire stupid people exclusively. They must have some secret test for intelligence in hiring and employit diligently, lest some non-stupids accidentally be hired. I am not talking about any one incident. I am referring to twenty-plusyears of dealing with chain parts stores. The level of plain stupid isastounding. They have no skills, no mechanical sense, and nowillingness to go beyond the blindingly obvious-indeed, even that failsthem ofttimes. It seemed like before, when you had the little guys, they would atleast endeavor to help you out if you weren't a total jerk. If what youwanted wasn't in stock, they'd figure out how to get one or send you toa nearby alternate source. Now, if they don't have it, or if they haveit and don't know it, you get that stupid stare and half-shrug.

Not as far as i know. I installed one in a Jag back in the late 70s, lots of torque.

The 307 always got a bad rap for having camshafts that went flat on one or more of the lobes. They really weren't all that bad of an engine. They never came from the factory with a 4bbl carb to my knowledge, but they responded well to all the usual hot rodding add ons if done properly. Also, an FYI, the 307 was basically a 327 stroke crankshaft (3.25") with a 283 bore size (3.875").

That is total BS!! Just because you are a minimum wage employee that does not give you an excuse to have a "don't give a s*it" attitude about your job. That is what is wrong with our Country these days. Noone take pride in what they do anymore.
