Availability of a 360 in a Jeep CJ

Super Bee, little????

I think maybe you mean the 1968 Dart and Barracudas that Chrysler built for Super Stock drag racing. These cars still dominate the SS/A and SS/AA NHRA classes.

These cars were almost 1000 pounds lighter than a Super Bee, and were the only ones ever available from the factory with the true high compression race Hemi with made well over 500HP right from Chrysler.

Beautiful Bill, there you go, you got it for them.

If his VIN has a P at number 7 spot, it was a factory 360.

But that also says the 360 was available in a bunch of different years.

That could be true. I thought the V8 was stopped in '79 for all CJs, but it may have been stopped only in the CJ5. I still do not think my '81 FSM lists the V8 in the CJ models.

I'll be happy to do it, Bill.

The magazines are seldom the right source for this sort of thing.

That agrees with what other sources say, that the V8 went away after 1981.

I also noticed, though, that the I6 258 Hp rating went _up_, from 100 to

115 around 1982. What did they do different?

They went 2 bbl carb and emissions computer. Kill the computer and likely add another 25 hp with the 2 bbl like you can do on the older ones.

It feels like 25% anyway...

Well, Bill nailed it. The 360 was an option in the CJ5's. If stock, the 7th place on the VIN will be a P.

a -5 or a -7? From the discussion it sounds like the 304 continued in the

-7 two years longer than in the -5.

But but but... The table comes through garbled here (text-only, no graphics) but it includes data for J-series trucks as well as CJs. Does it really show that the 360 was available for CJs as well as J-series, or just that was available for some AMC vehicles?

In any event, Jody's problem child would have to have that P in position 7 to race his 360.

Sorry if this has been posted before.. I didn't feel like reading the whole message tree
