BIG 4 SUED FOR ABS STOPPING DISTANCES!

It is obvious that you are an idiot without a clue about the physics involved, or statistical analysis for that matter. There isn't much point to continuing this discussion.

ABS is a joke intended to makeup for the fact most drivers are not capable of eating a whopper, dialling a cell phone, reading a map, and braking all at the same time. Maybe it's time to realise that technology can not makeup for ineptitude.

ABS levels are well below the "ultimate traction" (like that condition actually exists). they make up, and then only poorly, for inadequately trained drivers who are driving beyond their ability, or level of concentration.

Put the burger down... shut off the phone... turn off that dammed music... quit running a rolling day-care... and pay attention to the task at hand, technology isn't going to do it for you.

Our local newspaper did a big article on ABS brakes and they said the same as you and I and Bill have been saying.

'When ABS first appeared they were mistakenly promoted as reducing stopping distances. They didn't.'

Then they say with the 'new' computers, the 'new' ABS can 'generally' out brake the best of drivers.

LOL!

I think that about sums it up....

Well ... what I demoed to my son in a snowy parking lot is that I could get up to speed, slam on the brakes, and with the ABS brakes fully applied, just steer wherever I needed to ... left .... right ... no problem ... too easy. So picture yourself at highway speed on a snowy or wet road and a deer or two coming out of the ditch ... ABS makes collision avoidance, no matter the skill level of the driver, much much easier ... my opinion.

Lemme add ... 4 channel ABS (Subaru). No opinion on all those alternate kludges :-)

My point exactly ... you just wait there ... stopped ... on the freeway ... and I'll just steer around and go on ahead ... a heads up, there's an 18 wheeler on my tail :-)

The advice is to stop, but do not swerve, when confronting a deer. Most often, swerving to avoid a deer results in a more serious accident.

Swerve ... what's that ... I'm saying (4 channel) ABS is very very useful in maintaining full control of the vehicle on rainy/snowy roads to avoiding an in your face collision ... and around here it is just not very smart to stop on the highway ... there are too many persons behind the wheel that have absolutely no idea what to do if anything abnormal appears in front of them. I watched a woman rear end a stopped truck ... I could see her face ... she was in the lane beside me ... she saw the stopped truck ... but drove right into the back of it without even slowing ???. I digress ... but if pressed, and I saw no way out, I would hit the deer as best I could, then pull over ... way over ... just as I would head for the ditch vs slide in sideways.

"...sometimes its better to hit the deer than to cross the center line and hit another vehicle head on", Said Lt. John Eichkorn of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

And this guy is only a Lt?? I wonder why???

Because a Captain would have suggested making enough noise to chase the deer into the other guy's lane?
