Can I clear 33's on my 86 CJ-7? I have a Rancho 2.5 inch lift, I am not sure if I will have to go to as body lift.
Thanks in advance,
Frank

You may be able to get the tires on but it will be close. Not sure how much room you'd have after getting them on. May scrub a bit when flexing. I'd recommend looking at longer shackles. I've got a 2 1/2 inch suspension lift on my CJ5 with 1 1/4 inch shackles and am very pleased. I also have a 2 inch body lift but think I'd be ok without the body lift running 33's.
I had a 2.5 inch lift and Con-Ferr shackles (1" longer than stock) when I first went to 33's. No problems with the rear tires, but the fronts rubbed the fenders. I added a 1" body lift and trimmed the fenders under the flares, which removed most of the rubbing, but not all.
I am not a fan of "lift" shackles more than 1" longer than stock. They introduce other problems. A 4" spring lift would be a better solution.

I'm running 32s on a CJ5 with the same lift that you have, plus a 1" body lift.
No problems.
I have a 2.5" spring lift and my 33's fit great.

Stay away from the shackle lift! If you do body lift don't do anymore than
2"... 1" if you can get away with it.-- JimG

What's wrong with a shackle lift? Just trying to learn. Thanks.

On the front, it throws your steering (caster) way off. It can affect your pinion angles on the front and the back. Longer shackle tend to make for more sway, the springs may shift from sided to side. It also reduces your departure and approach angles... the extended rear shackle is usually what drags (or hangs up) coming off the rocks.

Frank: How wide are you wanting to go? I have a 4'' spring lift on my 86'' CJ -7 And I run 33: 12:50= 15's 3.75 inch's on the wheel back spacing with no rubbing to mention. That's as wide a tire as I will want to go and still be able to get into some pretty tight places. In-between trees and the like. Jimmie; A proud member of the Iowa Mud Slingers 4x4 club.
Jimmie I want to go with 33X12.50. I most likely will go with a 1 inch body lift if I need to.

Frank : It sounds like they should clear. My though was on the tire width. I'm not sure if you will have enough lift with the 12:50 's .Mike romain could probably be the guy to ask because he run;s a 33: 9:50 and he would know if there was enough room for the 12:50's to clear the fenders when you get your tire stuffed up inside.
